The Chanel store in Toronto's Yorkdale area is selling $1000 purses (ugly things with fake butterflies pinned to them). The window display selling these items features a painting of Frida Kahlo and Che Guevara. Frida is posing in her underwear as Che leers over her, flexing tattooed muscles. Floating around them are the purses.

In a race to grant honorary degrees to the rich, universities are getting into conflicts. Universities in Toronto and Ottawa wanted to give movie director James Cameron a degree. The solution? James collected his degree at Ryerson, then jetted over to Ottawa to collect the other one. The commencement ceremonies where the degrees were granted were by invitation only and quite a few graduating students were not invited. What did James do in order to receive two degrees? He made TITANIC, the most expensive film in history even though it used non-union labour.

The Metro Intelligence Unit a.k.a the anti-terrorist squad have publicly announced that political activists in Toronto have upped the ante and are being put under surveillance and targeted for arrest. What has caused such paranoia in the coercive arm of the state? The "Global Street Party" held earlier this summer.

Ontario Tory MPP Jim Brown claimed to the media that "squeegee kids make around $60 000 a year." Will law schools notice a drop in enrolments as squeegeeing is now seen as a path to upward mobility?
