The tunes and arrangements are deceptively simple, seemingly unfinished. Backup to the spellbinding vox is pared down to quietly insistent rhythm sections and single strings. ÿþ<brÿþ>ÿþ<brÿþ>ÿþ The antique 'torch' style associated with lang again receives new meaning with her utopian but perceptive, direct explorations of sexuality in the '90s. lang opens with the fearful vulnerability and coyness of 'if i were you', 'maybe', and 'you're ok', emotions overpowered by 'sexuality', the subsequent seductive, demanding ode to lust. The danceable 'get some' with the intimate ballads 'this' and 'infinite and unforeseen' provide interpretive vehicles for lang's self-confessed romanticism, while 'world of love' soulfully evokes the sensuality of love-making. ÿþ<brÿþ>ÿþ<brÿþ>ÿþ Two compelling, funky slow-burn torch songs round out this outstanding set. With 'i want it all' lang bares the complex paradoxes of desire; 'acquiesce' begins with the critical insight that the 'fuel of our oppression is the fuel of freedom too', and becomes, with the cd as a whole, a mocking, longing cry for a sexuality beyond the moralisms, repressions, and oppressions that characterise existing society. ÿþ<brÿþ>ÿþ<brÿþ>ÿþ ÿþ<formÿþ>ÿþ<inputÿþ ÿþtype="button"ÿþ ÿþvalue="Close"ÿþ ÿþonclick="top.close()"ÿþ>ÿþ</form>ÿþ ÿþ</body>ÿþ ÿþ</html>ÿþ<!-- FILE ARCHIVED ON ÿþ20:03:59 Jun 26, 2010ÿþ AND RETRIEVED FROM THE INTERNET ARCHIVE ON ÿþ09:24:52 Mar 05, 2026ÿþ.
