Published by Random House 1996.ÿþÿþ<brÿþ>ÿþ<brÿþ>ÿþ All too often books by leftists are about as easy to read as a computer manual. Many left authors, in their earnestness to prove the evils of capitalism, employ a boring, turgid style that leaves the reader wondering why they bothered to pick up the tome in the first place. ÿþ<brÿþ>ÿþ<brÿþ>ÿþ Fortunately, there are still some authors who have a readable and, more importantly, a humourous critique of the system of the bosses. Molly Ivins is one and another is Michael Moore. Some readers might remember Moore's work in film, notably the documentary ÿþ<iÿþ>ÿþRoger ÿþ&ÿþ Meÿþÿþ, where he sets about trying to interview the head of General Motors about why GM was throwing thousands out of work in Moore's hometown of Flint, Michigan. ÿþ<brÿþ>ÿþ<brÿþ>ÿþ Following in the footsteps of noted prankster Abbie Hoffman, Moore exposes the rottenness of capitalism. Moore isn't heavily into analysis of why the system sucks, he just knows it does. The bosses profit while workers suffer and Moore sets about showing the myriad ways they perpetuate their wealth. ÿþ<brÿþ>ÿþ<brÿþ>ÿþ Following on from his now cancelled TV series ÿþ<iÿþ>ÿþTV Nationÿþÿþ, Moore has written ÿþ<iÿþ>ÿþDownsize This!: Random Threats From An Unarmed Americanÿþÿþ. Short punchy chapters are Moore's style as he bashes everyone from "Corporate Welfare Babies" who feed at the public trough for billions of tax dollars to "F#!@ing Stupid Union Leaders" who continue to insist that Bill Clinton and the Democrats are really good for the working class. ÿþ<brÿþ>ÿþ<brÿþ>ÿþ Moore demolishes the strawmen erected by the ruling class in their attempt to hoover up even more dollars from workers to stash away in their bank accounts. The myths of lazy immigrants, welfare queens and the deficit are no match for Moore's pen. The book is full of the facts that leftists can use to counter the lies of the bosses. For instance, in 1994, burglaries and robberies caused losses of four billion dollars while corporate fraud cost $200 billion in the US. But corporate crime doesn't seem to register in the US war on crime. ÿþ<brÿþ>ÿþ<brÿþ>ÿþ Buy this book. Don't expect a trenchant analysis of the inner workings of capitalism. Do expect to arm yourself with good debating points for the next time someone tells you that GM is right to downsize and contract out 5,000 Canadian workers' jobs. ÿþ<brÿþ>ÿþ<brÿþ>ÿþ ÿþ<formÿþ>ÿþ<inputÿþ ÿþtype="button"ÿþ ÿþvalue="Close"ÿþ ÿþonclick="top.close()"ÿþ>ÿþÿþ ÿþ
ÿþ ÿþ
ÿþ<!-- FILE ARCHIVED ON ÿþ20:33:52 Jun 26, 2010ÿþ AND RETRIEVED FROM THE INTERNET ARCHIVE ON ÿþ09:41:45 Mar 05, 2026ÿþ.
