But Quebec students are taking the lead by massively opposing PQ government cuts to education. ÿþ<brÿþ>ÿþ<brÿþ>ÿþ On March 23, there were occupations of university administration and government offices in Montreal and Jolliette. The next day saw 10 000 students take to the streets across Quebec. The mobilization was initiated by an alliance of the two left-led student federations in Quebec, the Mouvement pour le droit a l'education (MDE) and the Canadian Federation of Students-Quebec (CFS-Q), which have promised an all-out unlimited student strike in October 1999 if cut funding is not restored. The MDE/CFS-Q initiative spurred the largest university student federation in Quebec, FEUQ, which is led by supporters of the Parti Quebecois government, into organizing its first demonstration in three years on March 24. The protests were supported by the union of CEGEP (Quebec's junior colleges) teachers. ÿþ<formÿþ>ÿþ<inputÿþ ÿþtype="button"ÿþ ÿþvalue="Close"ÿþ ÿþonclick="top.close()"ÿþ>ÿþ</form>ÿþ ÿþ</body>ÿþ ÿþ</html>ÿþ<!-- FILE ARCHIVED ON ÿþ19:18:40 Jun 26, 2010ÿþ AND RETRIEVED FROM THE INTERNET ARCHIVE ON ÿþ10:07:09 Mar 05, 2026ÿþ.
